ALENTEJO, PRECISAMOS FALAR DE SAÚDE MENTAL
(ALENTEJO, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH)

Conference

The 2nd Conference had a distinguished panel of guests who debated Mental Health issues from a clinical, economic, political, fiscal and social point of view.

The need to take concrete actions towards greater mental health was the main discussion. To promote literacy, create educational policies and the role of health professionals in a higher rate of acceptance and earlier diagnosis of the disease were some of the taken conclusions.

A necessidade de tomar medidas concretas em prol de uma maior literacia em saúde e melhoria da qualidade de vida do utente foi a discussão transversal a par com medidas preventivas para uma menor incidência da dor na comunidade.

SURVEY ON STIGMA IN MENTAL HEALTH

The stigma was described by Erving Goffman has “an attribute that is deeply discrediting” that reduces someone “from a whole and usual person to a tainted, discounted one”.

The Survey on Stigma in Mental Health sought to produce exploratory data on the stigma that exists among university students, in Portugal, regarding mental health.

The purpose of this survey was to promote knowledge about stigma and, thereby, raise awareness and draw attention to this issue.

The survey had students from 154 higher education institutions (universities and polytechnic), both public and private and 176 courses which were grouped in 10 scientific fields.
